If you're looking for some tips to improve your shade taking abilities and thereby improve the outcome of your fixed restorations , then let us try to help. Here are some of the ways that you might be able to get a better shade.
- Have the patient sit upright or stand while taking a shade
- Use natural light when possible. Operatory light is not very accurate.
- Use intraoral photography whenever you can. You can upload directly to our crown and bridge department with PicSubmit!
- Place shade tabs in the picture when possible. Use standard Vita shades like A1, B1, or A2. Vita 3D Shades are less than ideal for photography
- place tab on the same plane as the other tooth, icisal to incisal
- Indicate the amount of texture
- Indicate the amount of enamel overlay and degree of incisal translucency
- Is the shade more chromatic at thegingiva?
- Do you want occlusal staining?
- For women: Remove bright lipstick. It will affect the perception of shade.
As mentioned above you can always send images to us through the PicSubmit! utility on our site, or you can just put the images on a CD or other media to send to us. We can read basically any format, PC or MAC, and all information is useful.
